A cramped 8×10 deck torn down and reimagined as a larger 12×14 — new frame, composite decking and railings, and a composite privacy screen for a corner that finally feels private. Six months later, they brought us back for a 1,000 sq ft tile patio.
The existing 8×10 deck was too small for how the family wanted to use the space, and the layout didn't work. They wanted something larger, redesigned from scratch, with a private corner screened from the neighbors and proper stairs down to the yard. Mature trees on the lot added a wrinkle — the new footprint and footings had to be planned around protected roots.
We fully demolished the old deck and built a new, larger structural frame — pressure-treated posts, beams and joists on concrete footings, tied together with corrosion-resistant Simpson Strong-Tie hardware. On top went composite decking, composite railings, and a full stair run down to the yard. A privacy screen wall built from composite boards closes off the exposed corner, so the space feels private without feeling boxed in. Composite top to bottom means almost no upkeep — no staining, no sealing, season after season.
The finished deck gave the family a genuinely usable outdoor space: larger, private, and built to last with next to no maintenance. They liked the result enough to bring us back six months later to complete the bigger picture — a 1,000-square-foot tile patio that ties the whole yard together.
